Castello e Parco di Masino

Via al Castello, 1, Caravino, Torino, Piemonte, Italia

For over a thousand years, Masino Castle has dominated the vast Canavese plain from a hilltop in the evocative moraine barrier of the Serra di Ivrea. The family of the Valperga counts, descendants of Arduino of Ivrea, King of Italy in 1002, maintained possession for more than nine centuries, transforming it from a fortified stronghold into an aristocratic residence. The interiors preserve lavishly frescoed and furnished halls, ambassador chambers, private apartments, and panoramic terraces. Of great significance is the Library with over 25,000 volumes, a testament to seventeenth and eighteenth-century culture. The Savoy Hall, restored in 2022, celebrates the Savoy dynasty with frescoes depicting twenty-two cities throughout the Piedmont region and a collection of European portraits. The green spaces are arranged on multiple levels: from the formal Italian and French gardens to the romantic English-style park, featuring the celebrated eighteenth-century maze created with a thousand hornbeam plants. A panoramic café is available on the Oleander Terrace.
